Patch-ID# T21004-01 Jun/26/97 Keywords: PCMCIA insert boot xgl TFT power double buffer Synopsis:Jumbo patch for kernel and Save/Resume Solaris Release: 2.5.1 SunOS Release: 5.5.1 Unbundled Product: Unbundled Release: Topic: Kernel jumbo patch BugId's fixed with this patch: 00402 00405 00407 Changes incorporated in this version: Relevant Architectures: sparc Patches accumulated and obsoleted by this patch: Patches which conflict with this patch: Patches required with this patch: Obsoleted by: Files included with this patch: /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/tpunix /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/ts102 Problem Description: 00407 In S2.4 extra traps were added to locore.s to support special requirements of the XGL pipeline. In 2.5 these traps were not implemented with the result that double buffering programs would crash with an illegal instruction when executing one of these traps. 00405 In addition to turning off the TFT control lines (as on previous displays) the screen on the S3000XT requies that the power is turned off. This involves switching the floppy disc eject control line on/off in addition to sending a command to the micro to switch the control lines. 00402 If you boot the system with a card already in the PCMCIA slot the system does not recognise that the card is there and it is not possible to access it it all. If the card is inserted after the system has booted everything is OK. Patch-ID# T21004-04 Jan/27/98 Keywords: PCMCIA insert boot xgl TFT power double buffer p9100 modem spindown Synopsis:Jumbo patch for kernel and Save/Resume Solaris Release: 2.5.1 SunOS Release: 5.5.1 Unbundled Product: Unbundled Release: Topic: Kernel jumbo patch BugId's fixed with this patch: 00402 00405 00407 00412 00438 Changes incorporated in this version: Relevant Architectures: sparc Patches accumulated and obsoleted by this patch: Patches which conflict with this patch: Patches required with this patch: Obsoleted by: Files included with this patch: /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/tpunix /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/ts102 /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/p9100 /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/urt /kernel/drv/pcmodem /platform/tadpole4m/kernel/drv/saveresume Problem Description: 00438 The latest 2.5 inch IBM disk drives (DPLA-25120 5.1G or later) must have their heads parked before the power is removed. According to the data sheet, failure to do this will reduce the number of power on/off cycles that the drive will survive by a factor of greater than 100. So, save and resume needs to be modified to park the heads of any IDE disks that are present in the system before powering down. Details of how to do this are given in the OEM manual for the drive. Note that SCSI disks will need to be parked as well, because we now use IDE disk drives with SCSI to IDE converter boards. Firstly a framebuffer size field used to test for double buffering availability was not set. As a result double buffering was never available. Once the test was fixed, double buffer programs crashed because a screen private field was being set before the index (cfbScreenFuncPrivateIndex) had been initialised. The fault is the same in both programs - they assume that any depth less than 24 must support the PseudoColor visual. The fix changes the comparison against 24 to 16. This prevents the PCMCIA memory devices from being correctly linked in the device tree. 00466 If you try to label disk drives that are bigger than 16GB you only get a small amount of disk. eg. "we are evaling a 18.0Gbyte ext scsi Hdd and when I format and look at the partion table it shows it as only being 1.09Gbyte". From T21020-01: 00450 If you install Sun patch 104312-08 format no longer works properly with PCMCIA or IDE disk drives.
