Important Installation Information ************************************************************************ The patches in this bundle provide a fix for link failures that could potentially be seen when trying to generate a new kernel. There is a slight chance that just such a failure could be seen while installing this patch bundle. The failure can manifest itself in many ways: o kmupdate fails while executing kmpath o mk_kernel fails while executing /usr/sbin/bstab o mk_kernel fails while executing /usr/sbin/kmsecgen o mk_kernel fails with ld error of libu2comp.so o panics because of damaged image files Based on this potential issue, here are the steps HP recommends you take to install the August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i: 1. Use this swinstall command to load BUNDLE11i from the DVD. In this example, the DVD is mounted at /dvd_mount_point. swinstall -s /dvd_mount_point/BUNDLE11i \ -x autoreboot=true -x patch_match_target=true 2. If BUNDLE11i installs successfully, you are done. If you encounter a link failure as described above, use the following swinstall command to attempt to load the bundle. swinstall -s /dvd_mount_point/BUNDLE11i BUNDLE11i \ -x autoreboot=true -x reinstall=true 3. The swinstall command in step 2 can be repeated if a link failure continues to occur, until the installation is successful. This bundle, the August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i: o MUST be installed prior to updating to HP-UX 11i Version 2 Update 2 released in September 2004. o MUST be installed prior to installing the September 2004 version of BUNDLE11i. o is recommended for installation on any Itanium-based system running HP-UX 11i v1.6 as it fixes an IA kernel defect that may prevent future kernel patches from installing correctly. Please note that if you cold install HP-UX 11i v2 Update 2, or update from HP-UX 11i v1 (B.11.11) to HP-UX 11i v2 Update 2, you do NOT need to load the August 2004 version of BUNDLE11i. ************************************************************************ 2.
