IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MESA 2 VERSION 2.2 PRERELEASE CUSTOMERS By default, the released version of Mesa 2 Version 2.2 does not install itself over your PreRelease copy. Instead, it installs in the normal Mesa2 directory (or where your earlier copy of Mesa 2 was installed). You can change the directory to install over the PreRelease and/or you can choose to have the PreRelease automatically uninstalled. (While you can also leave the PreRelease installed in a different directory, this is not recommended.) There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods. If you choose to install in a different directory, none of the settings or customizations you have done to your PreRelease copy will be used. This is the preferred approach since changes have been made to many default settings, as well as the default menus and shortcuts, over the course of the PreRelease cycles. Thus you only can be assured of having all the standard Version 2.2 defaults if you install in a different directory from the PreRelease. If you choose to install in the same directory, your settings are preserved but you will probably be installing to the "nonstandardly named" Mesa2PR directory. And, at least some of your settings will not be standardized to the now-current 2.2 level. Thus, if you have not customized any of the various Mesa 2 Preferences (including defaults, options, files, toolbars, menus, shortcuts, etc.), it is strongly recommended that you install to a new directory and let the installation program uninstall the PreRelease. If you have done significant customization, a partial alternative is to copy your MESA2.INI file from the PreRelease directory to the new directory, thus preserving your customizations. You may also simply wish to try renaming the directory (before installing the released version) from \Mesa2PR to \Mesa2. Another partial alternative is to reload the shortcuts, menus, and toolbars if you have them saved as files. This is not the best alternative in most cases, however. For one, the default menus have changed to some degree and you will be missing a number of options if you load menus from the PreRelease. For another, toolbar files from the PreRelease will *not* load into 2.2 -- the file format had to be changed for a number of reasons. (Toolbars currently loaded in the PreRelease will be migrated forward if you install over the PreRelease or use your PreRelease MESA2.INI file -- you can then save them out, if you want, from 2.2.) If you have significant PreRelease toolbar files that you can't load after installing 2.2, please contact Sundial Systems Support Services for possible assistance in converting them. If you wish to preserve your toolbar customizations, the best approach is to use your existing MESA2.INI file (or install over the PreRelease). After installation, you can then obtain the standard menu and shortcut files for Version 2.2 and load them via the Preference notebook. (The default menu, shortcut, and toolbar files are contained in a DEFAULTS subdirectory after you install.) Another aspect of having the installation program automatically uninstall the PreRelease is that it will also remove the Mesa 2 PreRelease folder as well. Thus, any objects you have created in the folder will be lost. (Files you created in or under the PreRelease directory are preserved, however.) Thus, if you have such objects you wish to save, you should copy or move them to another folder before uninstalling. In some circumstances, if the PreRelease is automatically uninstalled, the icons may not immediately appear on the various palette objects that are created in the new Mesa 2 folder. These should appear after you shutdown and reboot. Finally, you can also run the PreRelease uninstall yourself. From a command line in the directory where you have the Mesa 2 Version 2.2 installation files (on Disk 1 if they are on diskettes), simply type: install pruninst and follow the instructions. No matter if the PreRelease is uninstalled manually or automatically, any files you created (including backup files that were automatically created) will still remain in the PreRelease directory (or its subdirectories). You can more or remove these at your leisure. While it is not required, it is also recommended that you shutdown and reboot after uninstalling the PreRelease manually (before installing the released version) or after the installation program automatically uninstalls the PreRelease. If you have questions about any of these issues, please contact Sundial Systems Support Services *before* installing the released version.
